Laying the Foundation for Green Living through Green Building

Both the construction and maintenance of buildings consume a large proportion of our daily use of energy and produce a similar proportion of waste. Given the profound impact the building industry has on the environment, the economy and our health it’s the natural place to start advocating change that promotes sustainability.
In March of 2000 the U.S. Green Building Council launched the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. During the past six years new standards have been set for Green Building and new techniques and materials have come on line to help those who want to construct structures that incorporate the principles of sustainability. Incorporating materials that are recycled, recyclable or both has become a more common practice.
The Green Building Institute hosts a symposium that examines the latest techniques and technologies for energy efficiency and green materials. The program offers an opportunity for industry professionals to network as well as exchange ideas. ...
